United defender escaped suspension after cynical applause

Rio Ferdinand can breathe. The Manchester United defender is not punished for his cynical applause for the nose of referee Cüneyt Cakir, reports the BBC. United was Tuesday at Old Trafford knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid (2-1) and Cakir was identified as the major culprit.
