The North African branch of AL-Qaeda claims to have beheaded a French hostage in retaliation for the intervention of France in Mali. This reports the Mauritanian news agency ANI.
Philippe Verdon, together with a fellow countryman on 24 November at their hotel in Mali was kidnapped on March 10 would have been slain.
The French Foreign Ministry declined to comment.
Since mid-January at least 4,000 French soldiers fighting together with African troops in Mali against Islamic militants with ties to the terrorist organization al-Qaeda.
