Jalili: No new nuclear Course in Iran after presidential election

The Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili has warned the West against false hopes on a new course of his country’s nuclear policy after the presidential election. Tehran insist on the right to a civilian nuclear program.

The nuclear program is a matter of state and non-partisan as such, Jalili said on Wednesday after his arrival to new nuclear talks in Istanbul. Talks about the controversial Iranian nuclear program should in Istanbul and Vienna continue.

In Istanbul as chief negotiator Jalili will meet the 5 +1 group (the five UN veto powers and Germany), the  EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton. In addition, representatives of Iran meet in Vienna with the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA technical meetings.

Substantial progress in the Istanbul negotiations before the presidential election in Iran on 14 June are not expected. The international community suspects Iran of working under the guise of civilian use of nuclear power on secretly building nuclear weapons. Tehran rejects this.
