Make Life Better With A Government Free Phone

In this day and age, it is very common to see individuals who have mobile phones in their hands. Sometimes, they would even have two units at the same time. In the olden days, these used to be a privilege to a select few because these would cost a lot of money. However, these are now considered as a necessity for a lot of individuals because communication is necessary whether you are a student or a young professional. Having a cellular phone allows you to keep in touch with relatives and colleagues. In addition to that, you will be able to relay your ideas to your co-workers immediately even if they are not nearby.

As mentioned earlier, these have a tendency to be expensive which is why those who are in the poverty base line tend to find it difficult to acquire one for themselves. Luckily, the government has seen how important it is to have one at all times which is why they developed the free government phone service so that those who are less than privileged can have one.

In the past, landline phones were the only units that were made available. However, as time progressed and numerous telecommunications companies developed, the government tied up with these companies in order to make mobile units available to the public. These days you barely stay at home which is why you need to see to it that people will be able to get in touch with you. However, not everyone is eligible to make an application for this kind of service because there are requirements that need to be met. These are the following:

  • You need to have low-income.

  • You should enroll or participate in the following assistance programs:
    – SSI
    – Food Stamps (SNAP)
    – Medicaid
    – National School Lunch Program’s Free Lunch Program
    – Temporary Assistance to Needy Families
    – Federal Public House Assistance
    – Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program
    – Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
    – State Assistance Programs

  • Your regular household income should be at or below 135 to 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

  • You need to research with regard to the eligibility criteria because these can vary from state to state.

Keep in mind that you also have your responsibilities once you have your application approved. These are the following:

  • See to it that you use your unit at least once a month in order to avoid the termination or disconnection of your contract.

  • Inform your provider if you have intentions of changing to a different address so that they will be able to make the necessary adjustments.

  • Only one unit will be provided per household which is why you should not attempt to make everyone in the family apply for one.

Even if you under-privileged, you will have higher chances of landing a job and making you and your family’s life better.
